Please let me know if you have any questions.

Human Rights Competition

I am writing to invite your students to enter the HART Prize for Human Rights and hope you could distribute this information according to your school's protocol. This competition aims to engage young people with human rights issues around the world and empower them to take action.
Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART) is a local charity based in London. We work with partners in conflict and post-conflict zones, supporting them with aid and advocacy and helping them to bring hope and practical assistance to their communities in very challenging situations. We work in eight different countries with peoples suffering from oppression, exploitation and persecution who are not generally served by major aid organisations and are 'off the radar-screen' of the international media. We help and advocate for the vulnerable, and would love to get your students involved.
Our human rights competition is now in its sixth year and has attracted an immense wealth of creative and written talent from a range of schools and universities across the UK. The Junior Category (ages 13-17) has two strands - written and creative - aiming to encourage critical engagement with the issues faced by our partners through a range of different methods.
Essay
Write an 800 word essay about the political, humanitarian and human rights issues facing those living in one or more of the countries in which HART works. A list of suggested titles and fact sheets on each country are available on the HART website.

Creative
Produce a creative piece of work about the human rights or humanitarian situation in any of the countries in which HART works. Find a piece of information about one of these countries which grabs you – and use your imagination to bring it to life in a creative way. Artistic mediums accepted include: paintings, drawings, illustrations, collages, graphic design, infographics, photographs, videos and poetry. Other mediums may be accepted – if your preferred art form is not listed please get in touch.
You can find out more information on the Competition Brief.
DEADLINE for submissions is 11.59pm 27th February 2017.
The final prize giving event will take place on the 5th April at the Amnesty International London office, and will be attended by Baroness Cox. Prizes include Amazon vouchers, publication, work experience and more for the best overall junior entry! Of course, it's also a great prize to put on CVs and Personal Statments.
If you are interested in learning more about the competition, please visit the competition pages of our website which provide further information for interested students

We are becoming increasing concerned by the misuse of the art studio and mac room.

The mac room is a fantastic resource which should be used for focused computer work. Music must not be played from the speakers and food must not be eaten in the room.

If your card does not open the mac room door you are not allow to use the mac room unless supervised by a teacher.

Sixth Form Gate

Dear All,

It has become apparent recently that visitors and students, who are late, have been occasionally gaining access to the school via Sixth Form Gate.  This is quite possibly happening when Sixth Form students are either entering or leaving school.

At about 9.00 am this morning Mrs Warland was in traffic in Gipsy Lane opposite the gate.  Two girls, probably Y10/11, read the notice on the window, hesitated and, when a Sixth Form student entered school using the gate, followed him through.

Please could students be reminded to be vigilant and to not let younger students, or visitors,  follow them either in or out of the Attendance gate.

In addition, please do not open the gate in the morning. Only staff are allowed to let students onto the school premises.

Many thanks

DGi History Period Five Tuesday with Year Thirteen A

Many apologies for the uncertainty about our timetable.  I think it is best if we stick with our original lesson time - Tuesday 5 - with apologies for Kamil who will need to go to Chemistry - we will then see if we can find a better alternative to Wednesday 3 in a fortnight's time. See you tomorrow at 1.30 in L13.

We have a great opportunity for any prospective students wishing to join the Army to attend an open day at Harrogate, Yorkshire, (the training location for young soldiers between the ages of 16 and 17.5). The open day is available on the 08 Apr 17.

If you are interested in applying for this open day, please contact me either via email or come and see me in the 6th Form Office and I can get you an application form.

Stephen Hawking tickets

Dear Y12 and Y13,

We are incredibly lucky to have 1 staff ticket and 4 student tickets to Stephen Hawking's lecture in Oxford next Wednesday evening (5pm, Weds 18th Jan, Mathematics Institute, Oxford) .

If you would like to attend, a parent of guardian needs to fill out the consent form that has been emailed home and send it to Dr Spence (W-08) by 12 mid-day on Tuesday 17 January. Copies of the letter are also available from Dr Spence in person (W-08)

As we only have space to take four students, returning a consent slip does not guarantee that can attend this event.  Instead, names of four students who have submitted a consent form will be drawn from a hat on Tuesday 17 January at 12 mid-day. Students will be informed during tutor time on Tuesday 17 January if they have been successful in their application for a ticket.

For those students who are unsuccessful in their bid for a ticket, the lecture will be podcasted live. See www.maths.ox.ac.uk for more details. - See more at: https://livestream.com/accounts/2754207/stephen-hawking-inaugural-roger-penrose-lecture

Thanks
