Thank you for your reply to the early notification we emailed on 19th July about the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference that Magdalen College School in Oxford will be hosting on 23-25 February 2018. The conference will run from 5.30pm on Friday 23rd February to 3.30pm on Sunday 25th February and your students in years 9-13 are warmly invited to attend. Please note the information below about the possibility of financial support for your delegates.
The conference will be of particular interest to students studying politics and international relations or involved in debating and I would appreciate it if you could let them know about the invitation and also pass it to relevant members of your staff.
In past years, Magdalen’s MUN conference has been attended by more than 200 students from schools in Oxfordshire and elsewhere in the UK and has been both successful and lively. This year we will be debating issues ranging from the response to refugees and migrants, the rise of everywhere terror, the future for Syria and the plight of the Rohingya; it will also, no doubt, consider the potentially disastrous impact of fake news and the war of words in America and around the world.
Each school will represent a particular country in the United Nations and will use its place on the five main committees and / or Security Council to defend its country’s position on the issues being debated. Further details of the topics, debating procedure, timetable and local accommodation are available on our website at http://mun.mcsoxford.org .
Attendees do not need previous experience of Model United Nations to participate in and enjoy the conference and we will provide guidance and support where it is needed.
