Fine Art Exhibition - Unknown

Cheney School Fine Art Students Present:
Unknown

Art Exhibition by Ruby Sherrington Smith and Sofia Miron
Thursday 28th April – 3pm-4:30pm
Friday 29th April – 2:30pm-4:30pm
Cheney School OX3 7QH, Library

Cheney School Fine Art students were asked to put on a pop up art exhibition to show the work they have been producing over the year so far. The exhibition theme is titled “Unknown” which is what the artists, Ruby Sherrington-Smith and Sofia Miron, have been drawn into and have based their work on over the past 8 months. Their work will be presented on Thursday the 28th at 3pm-4:30pm and also on Friday the 29th of April from 2:30pm-4:30pm in the Library located on the Cheney School campus.

The theme and concept of Unknown was derived from the artists’ interests of mystery and uncertainty. Their work not only reflects some different aspects of “unknown” but it also echoes how they respond to this theme. The exhibition is made up of several pieces of work ranging from coloured pencils, acrylics and etchings.

The artists would be delighted if you were to join them in the celebration of their art work.

Business Management Level 4 Qualification internship with local companies

Interested in Business Management?

Thinking University is not for you?

Want a level 4 business qualification with possibly no tuition fees?

Want an internship with local businesses?

The Management Academy (TMA) has been set up to identify and train young managerial talent, to prepare them for work and on completion to provide real jobs that offer quick career progression. TMA believes that management potential is evident in the teenage years and is not necessarily associated with academic results. Working collaboratively with schools, the academy will take on students post A level for an intense one year business & management course.

The training will be run regionally. It includes an introduction to all aspects of business, interpersonal skills and management techniques. Students will graduate with accredited business & management qualifications - HNC in Business, level 4 and Chartered Management Institute (CMI), level 4.

Supported by local SMEs, TMA will mix class based learning with actual business life. The course will include lectures from business owners and managers along with practical work experience (for which students will be paid). On successfully completing the course students will receive job offers

(facilitated by TMA) from the companies that are backing the academy. These will be full time permanent jobs, with the prospect of rapid career progression.

The academy charges tuition fees (£6,000), for which students can obtain a loan. This loan will effectively be repaid by the SME once students commence work. This makes the TMA unique in enabling students to begin their careers on a debt free basis.

The academy is being launched in Oxford this September. To celebrate this number inaugural scholarships are being offered, meaning that selected students will not have to pay any tuition fees.

TMA now needs help from schools to help identify suitable candidates.

Fine Art Exhibition: Humans

A-LEVEL FINE ART EXHIBITION: HUMANS
Tuesday 26th April 4:15PM – 6:00PM
Wednesday 27th April 3:30PM – 6:00PM
Held in Cheney School L1 (Sixth Form Area)
Aduen Benjumea / Nicole Caranzo/ Zakia Khademi
Cheney Sixth Form art students have been teamed up to curate an art exhibition to accompany their first year fine art portfolio. Every piece of work in the exhibition relates to the artists chosen pathway and thus over the past few weeks Aduen, Nicole and Zakia have worked hard to their first ever art exhibition showcasing their work entitled ‘Humans’.
‘Humans’ is about society and social pressures it portrays the way each individual human contributes to a society, and how that society contributes to culture and so forth. Eventually, this comes down to something we wear, the action of doing things and this becomes something universal. Some of the works they will be displaying include body figures, portraits and photography. In addition, some of the works are purposefully adorned left for the audience to perceive it in their own ways. The whole theme emphasises the structure of human life and how we become one community. However, it also attempts to explore the pressures of society in a way that separates each being from a close group. The exhibition contrasts the ways of being in a community to the way individuals go through life alone.
The artists welcome and encourage any comments and questions you may have on their work as it would benefit their project and understanding of their project as a whole. Also the artists would love all visitors to take part in the little activity they have organised which will be pinned on a “where do you fit in within society?’ wall and become a part of the project as the artists believed that it allow you to question where you fit in with society.

Fine Art Exhibition - Looking Beyond

14th - 15th of April 2016

Looking Beyond

The student art exhibition, ‘Looking Beyond’, takes a peek into how conventions created by society can mislead us to see object and people in another light. ‘Looking Beyond’ focuses on how we view aspects of our lives, such as the comfort of childhood or the ideas of what we should be that get drilled into our heads.

The project uses the atmosphere from the lack of lighting to create an uneasy and claustrophobic sense with the few torches guiding the gallery viewers towards the pieces.

The exhibition features work from Daniel Alvarez and Calum McClue, who have used a wide range of different medias to explore these themes. The work includes a set of Renaissance inspired oil paints with an uncomfortable appearance and a series of mix media pieces looking into a darker side to childhood.

Daniel and Calum are currently going to sixth form at Cheney School. Daniel is currently studying Fine Art, English Literature, Philosophy and Ethics, and Classic Civilisation. His current pathway is perceptions of power. Calum is currently studying Fine Art, Psychology, English literature and Classic Civilisation. His current pathway is isolation.

The event takes place at after school L14 over the 14th to the 15th of April.

Medicine Event Saturday 7th May Sorry for the delay with Medicine opportunity letters. Please come to see me today Thursday 14th April to pick up a letter and return it to me tomorrow Friday 15th as the organisers would like to know numbers as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Fine Art Exhibitions - Stereotypes Over Time

Fine Art Exhibition
Presents
 Stereotypes Over Time
April 12th – April 13th, 2016

Fine Arts students from Cheney School were entitled the task to prepare and create an exhibit with their chosen partner. Each pieces that will be made are related to their concept and pathway. We are proud to present a collaboration between Knep Maglonzo and Marion Oke in their first exhibit entitled Stereotypes over time which will run from April 12th – April 13th, 2016.

With the combination of concepts, the final idea for the pieces to be exhibited will be displayed as the stereotypes over the years from racial to gender, during the first several weeks both artist explored the illuminating nature of cultural change in fashion over time with the concept of stereotypes remaining the same. Both artists have decided to recognise racial stereotypes as a key theme in their exhibition to gain better understanding in the system of beliefs about certain characteristics in different ethnic groups or nationality, this includes the existence of cultural status and cultural norms. The pieces that will be displayed in the exhibition are prints (etching), paintings, ink and photography.
