Summer STEM Taster sessions

 Abingdon College has teamed up with some great employers to offer taster sessions into Science, Technology, Engineering and MAths (STEM) jobs.

RAF STEM taster day at RAF Brize Norton

Tuesday 5^th July, 9.45am – 3.30pm
The session will be fun and interactive with several activities to get you involved on the day.

 

·         ICT Tech/Cyberspace specialist activity.
·         Meet aircraft RAF engineers on the A400M aircraft including fault finding activity (subject to availability).
·         View RAF facilities (accommodation and gym)
·         Discuss the next steps

Abingdon and Witney College
1^st August, 8^th August and 15^th August, 9am -5pm Special lunch activity with the Royal Navy on 15^th August. Lunch is provided.

This exciting day starts with a welcome, introduction and tour of our brand new, state of the art facilities.  You will have a chance to do two activities during the day. 

 

1.      Computer Aided Design (CAD) project - using our high spec IT equipment, you will design your product and turn your plans into real life by building your design on our 3D printers.   
2.      Manufacturing engineering project - put your engineering hand skills to the test in our new workshop.  Learn engineering hand skills and produce a product by milling and turning using our state of the art machinery.

SS TUBE Technology taster day

Wednesday 3^rd August 20163.30p.m – 6 pm

The session will include:

 

-       a presentation and tour
-       observations of Computer Aided Design (CAD), laser cutting (watch a keyring, of your initials, being cut), tube bending, CNC machining
-       activities in the insulation department, spot welding using PPE, and TIG welding (melting metal together using electrical impulses).

You will also get a chance to talk to a current SS TUBE Technology apprentice.
