New Men's U21 Summer Football League

This month will see the start of the county’s first ever Men’s U21 Summer Football League; offering weekly 11-aside football for players aged between 16-21 years old

Starting on Wednesday 29th June, the purpose of the league is to provide an opportunity to support the transition of players from youth to adult football in a safe and enjoyable playing environment.

The league format will allow teams to have unlimited squad sizes, utilise rolling substitutions and include up to three players over the age of 21 within their match day squads. Fixtures will take place on grass pitches on Wednesday evenings at Cutteslowe Park, Oxford with games lasting for 60 minutes.

Oxfordshire FA will source FA qualified Referees to officiate matches and ensure that pitches are booked. However, teams will be asked to complete a weekly team sheet and pay a £30 match fee for each game.

If the league proves a success and there is enough interest from clubs wishing to enter teams, the intention of the Oxfordshire FA is to continue the offer of U21 football into next season, 2016-17.

To enter the summer league please complete the online registration form and arrange to make a £30 payment with Oxfordshire FA to secure your place by Wednesday 22nd June at 5.00pm.

For information please contact Sarah Wood: Sarah.Wood@OxfordshireFA.com

Y12 Classical Civilisation this week

This term we will be focusing on the two Roman modules on the Class Civ examination syllabus, and we are lucky that on Thursday 9th June, from 5 - 5.30pm,  Adam Parker, Roman archaeologist and the Assistant Curator of Archaeology at the Yorkshire Museum, is coming to Cheney to deliver a community talk.

He will be speaking about the archaeology of magic in Roman Britain. His presentation will introduce how people protected themselves from bad luck, demons and the Evil Eye by using magical objects, lucky jewellery, spells, chants, and sexual imagery in the first to fourth centuries AD.

Therefore instead of usual our Wednesday lesson, I would really like Y12 Class Civ students to attend this talk, which will the perfect start to our term on Roman beliefs and society.

The talk will be in L14 from 5 - 5.30pm this Thursday followed by drinks. I hope that most of you will be able to make this - please come and find me to let me know if you're not able to attend.

Many thanks!

EU Referendum - 23 June

As you are all aware the UK is deciding whether or not to stay in the EU. The referendum is being held on Thursday 23 June. If you are 18, you are eligible to vote, and I encourage to do so.

If you are not already registered to vote you have until tomorrow (7th June) to register. If you do not register you will not be able to vote. Registering is really easy and it starts by following this link:
                                        http://bitetheballot.co.uk/home/register/

For those of you that are not yet 18, I encourage you to still get involved with politics and learn how it effects you. From the age of 16 you can register to vote, this means that when you reach 18 the ball is already rolling.

To find out more about ways to get involved in Politics but also to understand how it effects not only the nation as a whole but your everyday life visit this website: http://bitetheballot.co.uk/.

Upcoming Events at the Blavatnik School of Government

Event 1: On Tuesday 7 June at 5pm, Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and former Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School, Joseph Nye, will be in conversation with our Dean. They will be discussing the topic of American power in the world, both presently and in the future.

Event 2: On Wednesday 8 June at 5pm, Visiting Scholar, Professor David Ellwood (who also served as a Harvard Kennedy School Dean), will be delivering a lecture on the ways to tackle poverty through upward mobility.

While these talks may not be wholly pertinent to your students, we’d love to see them engaging in issues of public policy from now!

Registration is required to attend, as spaces are limited, but both events are free. If you would like attend, please email events@bsg.ox.ac.uk

Resources on Year 13 Chemistry blog

Year 13 Chemists,

As requested I have uploaded the redox equation practice Q and my answers.  Also you are apparently missing the last set of answers to the analysis past paper questions - check the Yr 13 blog now to find these.

Hope your revision is going well!  You have been very lucky to have such miserable weather, I hate revising when it's sunny outside.

Miss Rayment
