I just wanted to let you know that St. Hilda's College will run another event in its Neuroscience/philosophy seminar series on Thurs 4th May 5-7pm entitled 'Addiction and the Brain'. Please pass the information on to any 6th form (or younger) students or teachers that you think might be interested and please ask them to get in touch if they would like to come along.

Oxford Brookes University Residential Summer School

Oxford Brookes are holding a residential summer school between the 3rd and 5th July.

It will consist of four different summer schools for Y12 students:
Scientia - providing students with an interactive insight into Science, Technology, Engineering, or Maths
Kick up the Arts - Experiencing life as a Film, Music, Publishing, or Fine Arts Student.
Equine - Practical sessions wit Vetinary Physiotherapist and visit to Common Leys Farm Campus 
Animal Behaviour - Sessions on animal training and anatomy and visit to Common Leys Farm Animal Unit

Work Experience Opportunity

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics is running a week long work experience programme this summer from August 21st - 25th.

During this week you will get the opportunity to extract DNA from saliva samples, use the polymerase chain reaction to amplify this DNA, and perform restriction digestions of the PCR product. 

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics is based in Headington and is part of Oxford University. More information about this opportunity is available on their website

There are 12 spaces available and at least 4 of those spaces will be filled by people from local schools.

Professor Robert Gildea Talk L14 Period Five Thursday

A reminder to all Year Twelve Historians that Professor Robert Gildea will be talking about the French Revolution in L14 during Period Five tomorrow Thursday 6th April from 1.30pm.  Please be punctual.  Year Thirteens are also very welcome indeed and are encouraged to come if they don't have a lesson - it will be a different talk to the excellent one you heard last year.

Year Books/Leavers Hoodie

As we’re approaching the end of the year, we’ve started discussing yearbooks. 

We’re very aware of the time and effort this would involve, and we would need a large team of people to help- however as we’re getting closer to exams, and with prom organisation on the way, we thought it would be good to consider other options. 

We want to ensure that everyone has something at the end of the year to remember your time at Cheney, and another option is a leavers hoodie. 

We would still need a small group of people to help with the design, but it would be much more straightforward. 

However, if there is an overwhelming majority who would prefer a yearbook, we can look further into that too. I’ve created an online poll- please vote for which you’d prefer!
